Diversity Training

Our experience demonstrates that a diverse workplace where different cultures, capabilities, gender and age are respected and appreciated reduces conflict among employees, increases effectiveness and improves employee morale. This is also true about the community at large – Interaction with different groups of people enriches the lives of everyone involved.

At Lara Media Services, we  base our diversity training on real experiences instead of hypothetical scenarios. What are the real effects of ignorance? What are the cultural expectations immigrants to the United States struggle with? Navigating the daily grind is something we may take for granted, but can be very difficult for those who speak another language and come from another culture. For example, buses in Mexico offer change to riders, whereas buses in in the United States tend to accept exact fare only. This can cause a multitude of issues for someone who is not fluent in English and walks onto a bus with a $20 bill to buy a ticket.

We tailor our diversity programs to our clients — We build our curriculum on research and understanding the experiences of stakeholders so that we can ground our training in the reality your employees or students experience each day. We use several tools, from role-playing, music, video materials, and personal testimonials to create a multidimensional approach.

Diversity Training Topics Include:

Review of Common Cultural Cues

Basic Language Training

Hiring Practices to Diversify your Workforce

Health Behaviors and Attitudes

Diversifying Your Workplace: Our Work with HSBC Bank

One example of our diversity training approach is the course that Lara Media administered to HSBC Bank, tasked with the purpose of changing hiring practices, increasing cultural awareness, promoting new knowledge and developing skills. In the end, the training benefited the organization significantly by increasing the level of bilingual staff and expanding the level of teamwork to better incorporate diversity.

The recruiting campaign a focused on increasing individual, organizational and cultural effectiveness. Lara Media achieved this goal with a variety of recommended changes and programs, including the development of job profiles for key positions in the organization, especially in the customer care department. A TV campaign in both English and Spanish was also executed to support these efforts.

For new employees, Lara Media specializes in helping them understand:

  • Their duties and responsibilities
  • The relative importance of their duties
  • How their position contributes to the mission, goals and objectives of the organization
